Deck builders Vaughan, ON![]() You’d be hard pressed to spend a summer in Ontario and not step foot on a deck. Decks have become a ubiquitous staple in our province, and the mention of summer (even spring and early fall) conjures up the image of firing up the grill and lounging with family and friends on a deck. We at Vaughan Fence not only partake in this Canadian tradition, we are Vaughan’s top deck contractors. Decks, porches, patios and the like, we build them beautifully and with durability in mind.
What’s a few things you have to think about when considering a deck build? One of the obvious questions to answer is “where”? In most cases, there’s an obvious spot in the backyard. In other instances where you’re talking about a larger property and more location choices, think about: easy access from the home or building. Also, if a deck will be built in a certain location, will the raised profile of the deck make the observer be on the same eye level as a room that requires more privacy, such as a bedroom or bathroom? These seem to be afterthoughts, but are actually important considerations in the planning stages. Framing materials are also important because the soil conditions and foundation strength are integral in the stability of the deck. This is something our deck contractors from Vaughan Fence will measure and advise when we visit your property to take measurements - we assess the viability of the foundation, whether it’s a straight-forward flat ground or a slightly sloped uneven ground to determine the right type of framing and framing materials to use. |

What about materials? Popular options include wood and composite. Among wood deck installations, you’ll find natural wood like cedar, which is inherently rot-resistant, but is not insusceptible to things like cracks, splinters and other wood-related issues, especially if not properly maintained. You can find pressure-treated soft pine deck planks, which addresses some of these concerns, but some people find the chemicals used to pressure-treat the wood off-putting.
Composite decking, which is a combo of wood fibers and polymer, is a green alternative compared to pure plastic planks as its composition is primarily recycled wood fibers and/or recycled plastics. Popular composite brands including TimberTech, Fiberon and Trex use common recycled household materials to create the boards. Think milk cartons and plastic bags that have been recycled and are now repurposed as decks. How cool is that? Other than creating a much smaller environmental footprint than plastic, what are the advantages of composite decks? Among the top reasons consumers have started opting for this material is it’s very low maintenance, weather and stain resistant, has a wide colour variety and is not prone to cracks or splits. No wonder the popularity of composite decking has soared in the past decade or so. Wood enthusiasts would argue, however, that plastic and composite decks look very “plasticky” with its relatively artificial appearance, and that many composite decking companies create planks that are slippery, sag and bend more than wood, and are susceptible to mould and mildew.
Regardless of which material you ultimately decide, whether it’s wood or composite, Vaughan Fence will make sure to build your deck with the utmost care and precision.
